Prepping For Your Spray Tan
Stop using any bar soaps and all Dove, Dial or Olay products ASAP-as well as razors with moisture strips-these leave a residue on skin that can block the tan solution. We carry residue free products in the salon or can recommend products to use.
Complete all other beauty appointments such as Mani/Pedis, Facials, etc. before your tan appointment.
Keep your skin well moisturized leading up to your appointment.
The Day Before Your Tan:
Shave and Exfoliate- Use an all natural oil free scrub (NO TREE HUT) or just an exfoliating mitt and clear shower gel like Native to remove dry, dead skin. Scrub any dry areas like elbows/knees extra good as well as armpits to remove any deodorant. If you have been using Dove, Nivea, or Olay products you will need to thoroughly exfoliate all areas of your skin with a loofah or mitt in soft circular motions to remove the residue that these products leave on your skin. We carry spray tan safe exfoliation scrubs for purchase in the salon that can be used prior to your tan.
If you have residual self tan or spray tan on your skin it must be removed before applying a new tan as well. We carry tan removal foams and exfoliators if needed for purchase in the salon.
The Day Of Your Tan:
Make sure your skin is completely free of any lotions, makeup, and deodorant. You should have clean skin, free of any products.
Although you need to remove all products from skin-DO NOT shower right before your appointment. You must shower at least 4 hours or more before your appointment time so that skin can dry completely. If you have a morning appointment please shower and remove any products the night before.
We do have wipes available for your convenience at the salon if makeup or deodorant needs to be removed before your appointment.
Timing Your Tan For An Event
Timing your spray tan appointment properly before an event or vacation will ensure you get the most life out of your tan!
Vacation- If possible, it is best to schedule your spray tan for the day before you leave for vacation. Your tan will last up to 10 days with proper aftercare but will look best during the first 5-7 days. Make sure you review and follow the aftercare instructions to get the most life out of your tan.
Event- For an event like a wedding or prom we recommend you schedule your tan for 2-3 days before the event. We also recommend a test tan at least a month before the event so the color can be finalized and adjusted if necessary. For brides, two test tans are recommended and can be scheduled to coincide with other wedding events like engagement photos, a bridal shower or a bachelorette party!
What To Wear
Please wear loose, dark colored clothing to your appointment.
During the spray tan we recommend you wear a dark colored bathing suit or undergarments. Like a natural tan, you will get tan lines where your clothing is, so think about this when choosing what to wear, especially if your tan lines will be seen in your dress/attire for an event. Most women wear either a bikini, bra and underwear, thong, topless or choose to wear disposable thong/bras available at the salon. It’s totally up to your comfort level!
Male clients are required to wear bottoms such as boxers, briefs or a bathing suit-we do not have disposables available at the salon for male clients.
