Tan Aftercare
Proper aftercare can go a long way to ensuring a lasting and evenly fading tan!
Using spray tan safe products is one of the most effective ways to prevent patchy or early fading. Avoid Dove, Olay Suave, and Nivea products. You should only use moisturizers, cleansers and sunscreens that are compatible with a spray tan to avoid stripping the tan. Anything with alcohol, sulfates, and mineral oil should be avoided. We highly recommend using products that are specially designed to work with spray tans, these are available for purchase in the salon.
If you choose to use commercially available products please consult our Products List page for recommendations.
Spray tans do not protect your skin from a sunburn so make sure to use spray tan safe sunscreens such as Sun Bum Lotion SPF 50, SuperGoop Play, and Coola Body Sunscreen. Do not use spray sunscreens or anything with alcohol or mineral oils.
Make sure you stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water and moisturize your skin twice a day with a spray tan safe moisturizer.
Avoid long hot showers and hot tub soaking. Swimming in a pool can also cause some stripping of the tan but not nearly as much as a hot tub due to the heat. Hot water is your tans enemy! Whenever getting out of the pool or shower, pat dry, don’t rub.
Many women notice their face and legs will fade a little faster due to shaving and makeup removal/skin creams. Tan refreshing mists/foams are easy to use and excellent at rejuvenating your tan in these areas and greatly extending the life of your tan! We carry various options in the salon and can recommend the right product for your skin type.
If you are hitting the gym on a regular basis and working up a sweat we recommend one of our Rapid Tans which has a sweat resistant addition and will hold up longer if you’re going to be in a hot climate or working out.
